Conelectricas R.L. History

Before the existence of the Cooperatives of Rural Electrification in Costa Rica, the areas served by these had very little electrification, limiting electricity to the important urban zones, and in some districts to stores, bars and some houses, generally pertaining to relatives near, or the same owner, of those commerce, that were owner of the electric generator as well, usually moved by a motor of internal combustion; the rural electrification as is did not exist.

With this antecedent and the necessity to electrify these zones, with the expectation to stimulate the economic and social development of the rural life, and in general to contribute to reach more high standards of life within its area, the idea to create in Costa Rica a cooperative of electrification was born in 1964, those that are defined as organizations that offer the electrical service without profit aims to their associate, that are the owners of the same ones.

In Costa Rica four Cooperatives of Rural Electrification exist: Coopelesca R.L, Coopesantos R.L, Coopeguanacaste R.L, Coopealfaroruíz R.L; which formed the 26 of June of 1989, a new cooperative, the National Partnership of Companies of Electrification of Costa Rica R.L (Coneléctricas R.L).
